Person Description
Eulogy for Edward J. Voelkel
Ed was born December 8th 1958, in Miami,Florida.He spent the first 9 years of his life there,and then moved with his parents and younger sister and brother to Washington DC,where his father worked in a governmental position.He told me that while he and his family only lived there some 2 1/2 years,his mother had taken him to see many of the places of interest there{the capital building, the Washington and Lincoln memorials,and many others}The Smithsonian Institute was one of his favorites.
After completing high school Ed went to the University of Northern Colorado,located in Greely Colorado,He majored in accounting and computer programing.He had already become familiar with computer hardware and programming while still in high school.And ,though working with his father at{putting together a computer and learing to operate and program it}
After graduating,he went to work for a plumbing contractor,and then a general building contractor.He handled their accounting and computer needs.
Ed also became a registered herpetologist{which is a person who specializes in learning about reptiles}
Ed took care of the computer hardware and software needs of small to midsize companies all over the country.
He joined forces with friends,establishing a newspaper called the Grapevine.
He was also heavily involved in the 1-800-TOO-VOTE project,that allowed people to call in,and voice their opinion to the legislature.
When first here in Phoenix,he was a member of the Lutheran Youth organization,participating in their activities.he later became acquainted with the Suma Ching Hai Meditation Association,through their restaurant on 7th Ave,and has been an initiate for some 7 years.
He will be greatly missed,both professionally and as a personal friend to many.
i'm sure all agree,we have lost someone special,a compitent and cable business consultant and techical support person.
an interesting,informative,helpful person
and maybe most important, a good friend.
Ed will Dearly be missed,he is survived by his parents Edward and Suzanne Voelkel,a brother Robert Voelkel,a sister Elizabeth Molenaar and her husband Greg,and one niece Catherine Molenaar all of Colorado.
