George M. Dormody, 74, Korean War Veteran

N. MASSAPEQUA, NY George M. Dormody, a Korean War veteran who endured Frost bite, escaped capture and other hardships - not to mention combat during service, died Saturday, December 27th 2003. He was 74.

Born the son of Irish Immigrants in Boston, Massachusetts. His parents moved to Brooklyn, N.Y. In the early 1930s where George attended school and grew up. George joined the Army at the age of 20 and Served in the Korean War, 1951-1953

Married to Jeannette Marenga in 1955, also from Brooklyn. George moved his family to Seaford, NY in 1962 and retired from NYMTA in 1987 where he worked as a master mechanic on heavy equipment, participating in many major rail projects throughout Brooklyn and New York City.

A proud and active member of the Korean War Veterans, Nassau County chapter no. 1, He gave much of his time doing fundraisers for his fellow Korean War Veterans. George was also a 4th degree member for many years with the Knights of Columbus, Delaney Council no. 5983, Seaford, NY

He is survived by his daughter - Jeanmarie and her husband Kevin; son Jeffrey Dormody; four grandchildren Kristopher, Timothy, Kevin and Michele.

Services were held on Monday, December 29th at James Funeral Home , 540 Broadway,
Massapequa, NY 11758. There was a mass on Tuesday, XXX:00 AM at St James RC Church, 80 Hicksville Road, Seaford NY. George M. Dormody will be laid to rest at Calverton Memorial Cemetery, Calverton, NY.
