George Joseph Merker
February 22, 1918   -   July 09, 2005

Obituary posted by : Laura Dawson ,  Granddaughter
Person Description
George Joseph Merker, 87, of Camarillo, CA left us to live with the good memories of him at 6:12AM on July 9, 2005. He was born February 22, 1918 and raised in a one-bedroom house in Brooklyn, NY, one of 13 children. This was my grandfather whom I looked to as a father figure in my life. He was a great person and lived a full life while he was here. A Veteran of WWII, Radio Broadcaster, Technical Writer for McDonald-Douglas, and Key Shop owner, but mostly remembered by me to be the smiling personality I came to visit whom took me to the ice cream parlor on daily walks and made the best Shirley Temples upon arrival of every visit! He would adore children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren throughout his life and always made us feel so special. In a room filled with adults and children, the children were always more entertaining to him. He loved and cherished his wife Winifred, who passed on September 3, 1995, and longed for her for the rest of his life. May they rest in peace together now. George Joseph Merker is survived by immediate family; Daughter Mary Graves, Granddaughter Laura Dawson, Great Granddaughters Michelle, Zoe and Cinder, Grandson Michael Dawson; Son Michael Merker, Grandson Jon Merker, Granddaughter Pat Addieg, and Great Grandson Vincent. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends from coast to coast.
