|Obituary posted by : Kaci Page , Granddaughter || Person Description|| Ben Mashburn Sr. passed away peacefully in his home on December 16, 2005, at the age of 74. He was born in Gadsden on December 13, 1931, and later attended Gadsden High School where he was a viable contender in Golden Gloves Boxing. Following graduation from Gadsden High, Ben attended Tennessee Temple Bible College. His career spanned many different fields including the restaurant business and textile management. During his younger years in Gadsden, Ben managed the Pic-A-Burger Drive-In where he created and sold the “Paul Bunyan Burger.” He also served as the Golf Pro at Tuckahoe Heights Golf Course and later became a member of the Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA). Ben spent a number of years in the Rome, Georgia, area before moving to Florida to spend many years as a commercial fisherman. His career then landed him in the beautiful mountains of North Georgia where he worked as a contractor and homebuilder. Ben had recently moved back to the Gadsden area and was employed at Don’s Butcher Block in North Gadsden. Ben had a passion for traveling and visiting with his many friends throughout the Southeast. He will be remembered as an avid golfer and outdoorsman as well as a friend to all who knew him.
Mr. Mashburn’s survivors include: Son - Benji (Linda) Mashburn Jr. – Gadsden. Daughters - Patti (Johnny) Page – Attalla, and Darlene (Jimmy) Brown – Southside. Granddaughters - Leslie Brown, Kaci Page, Keri Page, Kristin Mashburn, and Emily Mashburn. Grandsons - Ted (Andrea) Page, Jeremy Page, and Ben Mashburn III. Sisters – Brenda Buchanan (Texas), and Rachel (Gary) Crowe (Sarasota, FL). Brother – Patrick Mashburn (Texas). Special Uncle - Jack Smith (Sardis, AL). Special friends – Larry Brown (St. Marks, FL), David Sigmund and Maggie King (Blairsville, GA), as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins
| Service Information||Visitation at Morgan Funeral Chapel on Sunday, December 18, 2005 from 6-8 p.m.
Graveside Service at Smiths' Chapel Cemetary on Monday, December 19, 2005 at 2:30.
Pallbearers will be friends. Honorary pallbearers will be the employees of Don’s Butcher Block. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Don and Becky Martin and family for their care and concern.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
