Person Description
Cameron fought a long hard battle against Osteosarcoma cancer, first diagnosed at 15 years old. During the course of his short life he won the Fair Go Secondary school Ad Awards 3 out of 5 times in as many years, his final submission "Organ Donors" won first place 7 days before he died. Service Information
Cameron Duncan left this life at MD Anderson Cancer Centre, Houston, Texas while undergoing clinical trials after all other treatments had failed. His body was returned to New Zealand to lie in state on Hoani Waititi Marae for 2 nights. His funeral service was then held at Avondale College (Cameron's High School), Auckland attended by 2,500 friends & family. As the service was held after Bursary exams, Cameron could not be buried after nightfall so was taken home to Massey, Auckland and placed in his closed coffin in his bedroom area surrounded for his last night by his grieving friends and family. The following morning Cameron's coffin was carried around the softball diamond he once pitched on, at Waitakere Bears Softball Club, by his teams mates and then the cavalcade of 38 cars escorted him to his final resting place on the hill, overlooking the grounds, in Waikumete Urupa, West Auckland, New Zealand.
