English-born producer and director Bill Hastings has died of an apparent drug overdose in Germany on Wednesday. He was 43.
Hastings, who was also a peace activist was compiling a documentary based on the plight of the people in war torn African nations such as Burundi and Darfur. Beginning his career as a Director of Photography in London, Bill was an accomplished cinematographer who eventually endeavored into production with numerous credits on the small screen. He recently founded HABI International, a Berlin based production company, whose final project was the entertainment/adventure reality series "Journey Of A Rock Star." Bill, a recovering addict with nearly a decade sober fell ill earlier this year while on business in South East Asia and subsequently relapsed into addiction. His life partner, Heinrich Aldtstadt, had reportedly made several attempts with no avail to convince him to enter a treatment facility. His final days were spent in Holland though he reportedly returned to Berlin on the morning of his death.
