|Obituary posted by : Kathleen Scanlan , Daughter || Person Description|| Mr. John Rodger Scanlan, age 80, of Lynn, died Thursday at Union Hospital, after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Brenda A. (Buckley) Scanlan, his wife of 55 years.
Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late John F. and Alexanderena (Rodger) Scanlan. He was raised in Spencer, MA from the age of 3 years old and was a graduate of David Prouty High School, class of 1946. He had lived in Lynn since he moved back at the age of 18.
Mr. Scanlan was a Veteran of both World War II and the Korean War, serving in the US Army.
He had worked as an assembler at the GE Riverworks Plant, Lynn. He retired in 1984 after 41 years of service to the company.
A 50 year member of the Knights of Columbus Valladolid Council #70, Lynn, he and his wife were awarded the Irish Couple of the Year Award by the council in 1975. He was a Communicant and member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, Lynnfield. He had also previously been a member of OKO's Firemen's Muster Team of Marblehead, a member of St. Joseph's Holy Name Society, a Boy Scout Leader at St. Joseph's, a Manager of the East Lynn Little League Angels, a member of the Lynn Band Boosters, a Union Steward for IUE Local 201, Lynn, and a School Crossing Guard at Shoemaker School.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by their children; Deborah A. Scanlan, and her husband Daniel Gingras, of Lynn, John F. Scanlan, and his wife Debra A., of Nashua, NH, and Kathleen Scanlan, of Middleton, his grandchildren; Brian, Kathleen, and Christa Roy, Samuel Thomas and his wife Vanessa, Justin Thomas and his wife Adrianna, Jennifer Scanlan, Amy Clement and her husband Seth, and Dana and Jacquelyn Bullerwell, and his great granddaughter Ellyssa Thomas, his sister Rena Bower and her husband Clayton, of Natick, and several nieces and nephews. He was also the father of the late Donna E. Scanlan.
| Service Information||His Funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9:30am from the SOLIMINE LANDERGAN AND RICHARDSON FUNERAL HOME 426 BROADWAY (RTE129), LYNN, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30am in Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Tuesday 4-8PM.
