|Obituary posted by : Cat Henry , daughter || Person Description|| Joan J. Kunberger, 90, recently of Leavenworth, KS died February 19.
Joan, daughter of Joseph and Ann Jurinak, and wife of the late Maj James H. Kunberger, passed away under hospice care at Medicalodge Leavenworth. One of her daughters and a granddaughter were at her side. Previously Joan resided in Tacoma, WA during her retirement years. Prior to that she. lived and raised her children in Killeen, TX.
The death of her husband in 1968; of her youngest child, Jeffrey Kunberger in 1972 and her only sibling Jerome Jurinak’s in 20XXX preceded her. She is survived by her three daughters ( Ann Marie Mahan, Linda Fotiou, and Cat Henry) and a son (James [Jimmy] Kunberger). She was “Granny” to six grandchildren and two great grandchildren with another one soon to be born. Joan’s professional career was as a supply clerk for the federal government at Ft. Hood, TX for over 20 years retiring around 1983.
She enjoyed her hand crafts (sewing and crocheting) all her life. She took her hobby and engaged in craft fairs after her retirement displaying and selling her crocheting. She had a lifelong love for music and played mandolin earlier in her life. She enjoyed reading, and her flower garden with its visiting birds.
The family would like to express their gratefulness and thanks to their Leavenworth friends and extended family and to the St. Paul Lutheran Church community for their kind support during this time. Special appreciation and affection goes to Gail Hammer and Rhonda Crute who came along side and brought much comfort and love to Joan during her final years.
A memorial service is to be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Leavenworth February 27 at XXX:00 a.m. Her remains will be sprinkled later this year at her son’s and husband’s graves in Texas.
